First Impression: Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace
So far, this is my favorite anime for this 2015 Summer chart.
Storyboard
Okay, let's get this started. The episode started with some mystery scene which served well for its viewers. Thrilling but at the same time the direction of the show want to get things straight down to business. This episode is where the two main characters of the show meet due to some circumstances. The mysterious aura blended with interest on the main character's background is something that caught my attention. The protagonist has a little background shown about him but we'll see more about that in the upcoming episodes. This episode has a nice way of introducing that characters which is somehow similar with Detective Conan.
Art
While this episode excites other viewers, there's another thing that caught my eye: the visuals. The visuals started with dull colors and then finally revealed the official color palette for the show. I would say that such sequence gave a good impression of me as some mystery anime. There is also some horror atmosphere expressed through the chosen colors.
Very Sherlock? Maybe. But, the show already showcased its representation through its sequence of events . We can still see more developments in the upcoming episodes. The character designs were cute that I even thought that the protagonist is a female! Nice and appealing; something that I also like in this show however it didn't really gave that much impact on me at the very start. Nevertheless, it's nice.
Music
The music for the opening is also good and will give you a little chill. However, the tune was quite awkward at the beginning of the song (before the vocals). My first impression about it is like a little bit Ali Project-ish with a mix of rock. The tune matches well with some gore-ish lyrics. Very Ali Project indeed isn't it? The background music is very Sherlock/Conan-ish which brings out that mystery theme of the show but the tune is not that much unique to me. But, it is nostalgic.
Overall
Horror, School and Mystery. We'll get to see more of these and how these genres will intersect with each other. A nice way to start this Anime Summer 2015 chart. I can't wait to see more of Ranpo Kitan in the future!
A full review about this anime after few months. Well, we'll see about that~
