First Impression: Charlotte

I’m not a fan of Jun Maeda’s works but I do acknowledge Clannad and Angel Beats for being the tear jerkers that cost almost 2 tissue boxes in my room (lol).

This guy just created his own brand of Lelouch Lamperouge through the protagonist named Yu Otosaka. This Yu Otosaka is freakin sinister in his own ways but the way he behaves is just almost similar with the guys of some slice of life series. Yup, he got the looks but him being the Lelouch (that most are talking about) here sort of not impressive to me. I got this impression that he is like some kind of a guy in a detective show probably because of the monologues but he did mentioned that he is not the genius type like Leloouch or Light Yagami. The way he smirks is quite disturbing and pretentious in my opinion. Seriously, that didn’t give him that much Lelouch impression on me but he sure uses his ability for his own gain (in a simple setting).

And yeah, Jun Maeda took Geass on a slice of life level. Since I mentioned this anime’s simplicity, I would say that this is a mix supernatural-simple life which is much like Angel Beats in comparison.  Honestly, this concept is not new to me. Even the school setting didn’t really gave much uniqueness in the setting in my opinion. Nevertheless, it has its light sides. In fact, the anime seems too light and relaxing to watch. It has its own simple brand of comedy which entertained me.

Now as for the girl named Nao Tomori, my impression about her is some kind of a Kanade-ish cold mistress. But, I didn’t expect her showing her toughness throughout the episode. It’s sort of unpredictable.

The art particularly the character designs are nice. The chosen colors match that slice of life theme however it just didn’t brought out the supernatural side that much. The movements of the characters are just okay. Something I can see in some low-budget action fantasy anime.

To be honest, the trailer raised my expectation of this anime being the promising series but it seems that the series is still on its warm-up phase. I hope to expect more in the upcoming episodes. I doubt if this series is really promising but who knows right? It’s still ongoing.

The anime is very simple and I didn’t really capture that much about the plot. I just hope it will reveal its direction somewhere in the upcoming episodes.
